Frequently Asked Questions

Personal Injury

What should I do if I get in a car crash?

  • If there are major injuries, call 911.

  • Once it’s safe, take pictures—of the damage, the scene, the other driver(s) and their documents.

  • Have witnesses text you their contact information so you can reach out later.

  • If you’re hurt, seek medical care.

  • Call your insurance company. Cooperate, but be cautious.

  • We’re happy to talk you through your options and next steps. Give us a call at 503-224-1658.

How much money can I get for what the crash has put me through?

  • Every case is unique, and there’s no magic formula. Give us a call at 503-224-1658 to talk about the factors that go into the calculation and what compensation you may be able to get.

Do I need a lawyer if I have neck pain or whiplash?

  • If you have neck pain from the crash, your insurance will likely offer a small amount. With a lawyer, you can get higher compensation — and the other party may be required to pay the attorney fees.

  • Give us a call at 503-224-1658 to talk about your options and next steps.

How can I pay for my medical bills?

  • Your Oregon auto insurance policy includes at least $15,000 or two years of coverage for most crash-related medical treatment after a car accident. It’s called “personal injury protection” (PIP), and you can get it no matter who caused the crash.

How long will it take for me to be compensated for my injuries?

  • It can take as little as a few weeks to get full compensation. At the longest, cases are usually resolved within a year of filing a lawsuit.

  • Give us a call at 503-224-1658 to learn more about the factors that affect the timeline.

Do I have to pay a lawyer to help me get compensation for my injuries?

  • Ross Law represents clients on a “contingency basis,” which means we only get paid if you get compensation. If you don’t get paid, you don’t pay us anything.

Will my insurance cover my pay if I have to miss work because of the crash?

  • Yes, all Oregon auto insurance policies are required to provide what’s called “wage loss.” People injured in a car accident in Oregon can get 70% of their pay if they miss more than 14 days of work in a row. However, it will only cover up to $3,000 per month for one year.

Will my insurance reimburse me for the cost of daycare while I was in the hospital?

  • Yes, but it’s usually limited to $25 per day that an injured person is in the hospital.

Is it normal for my auto insurance company to ask me to be examined by a doctor?

  • Many auto insurers paying for medical care will do this to avoid paying your bills. Often, these medical examinations result in a refusal to pay future medical expenses. If this happens, you should talk to a lawyer. Give Ross Law a call at 503-224-1658 for a free consultation.

What do I do if my auto insurance company has stopped paying my medical bills?

  • Auto insurance companies will often refuse to pay people’s crash-related medical bills claiming they are not related to the crash. As a result, injured people stop treating with medical providers and are stuck paying thousands of dollars in medical expenses. If this occurs, you should speak to a lawyer. Oregon has laws that allow attorneys to represent injured people in this situation to sue their insurance company to get the bills paid.

Injury on Someone Else’s Property

  • Take pictures of where you were injured. If you can’t, have someone else take pictures.

  • Have witnesses text you their contact information so you can reach out later.

  • If you were injured at a business, their insurance may cover up to $5,000 of medical bills.

  • We’re happy to talk you through your options and next steps. Give us a call at 503-224-1658—it’s always free.

Personal Assault

What should I do if I was sexually assaulted?

Do I need a lawyer if I am a crime victim or sexual assault survivor?
